I’ll start by saying I’m a fan of vanilla in all its forms. I couldn’t wait to flood my house with the scent armed with the spray bottle. A strange thing happened… the first notes immediately reminded me of a syrup I had to take when I was little, which brought back unpleasant memories. This “olfactory trauma” happens every time I use the spray. However, I’m slowly developing a tolerance. The peak of the fragrance, for me, comes about half an hour after spraying, when the syrupy sweetness starts to fade and the scent of vanilla begins to emerge. This is the moment when I truly enjoy the fragrance and breathe it in with pleasure. It’s been a curious experience to realize that some “childhood traumas,” unlike perfumes, don’t evaporate.
